One of the spiritual leaders of resistance to the totalitarian system, an outstanding figure of Ukrainian national democratic movement of the 1960s. A monumentalist painter, organiser of the Suchasnyk Club of Creative Youth -  the highest wave of the movement of the 1960s. A person of great energy and civil bravery.
